Dr. Shaw graduated from the University of Florida at Gainesville with a bachelor’s degree in microbiology. She then pursued her medical degree at the University of Florida and completed her specialized training in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at University of Florida’s Shands Hospital and VA Hospital from 1995 through 2000.
Dr. Shaw is on staff at Northside Hospital, Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Atlanta.
Individual attention to each patient is a hallmark of Dr. Shaw’s pediatric and adult ENT practice. She explains, “I have to measure my professional accomplishments by the impact I make on each patient one day at a time. This is where I get my greatest satisfaction and why I do what I do. It’s the difference you make in curing a patient you are face to face with, whether it is in the office or the operating room.That’s what makes me look forward to going to work every day, and how I have grown a successful ENT practice for 23 years.”
Dr. Shaw was recognized as a Top Doctor by Atlanta Magazine in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. A leader in the medical community, Dr. Shaw has also served as President of the Georgia Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in 2019.
She is a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, and a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and the Atlanta Medical Association. She is a Board of Governors representative for the Georgia Society of Otolaryngology. Dr. Shaw is a past president, previous officer and member of the Atlanta Metro Educational Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. She is currently the Chief of the Otolaryngology section at Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital and has served in this capacity for the past seven years. She is a supporter of many community charities including St. Joseph’s Mercy Care Clinic and the Mercy Care Foundation.
Dr. Shaw hails from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and has been married to Dr. Kurt Briesacher, a cardiac anesthesiologist at Emory Saint Joseph’s, for 25 years. They share a love of the outdoors with their three children and the yellow Labrador Retriever and can be found hiking, biking, running or paddling as often as possible in their free time.
